If you have AirPods or Beats headphones, you might have been surprised to hear Siri reading out your iPhone notifications to you. Even though this often a helpful feature, sometimes it can be annoying. It’s also worrying if you might be sharing your headphones with someone else and don’t want your notifications read out to them.

Fortunately, it’s really easy to stop Siri reading out your notifications, and it’ll only take you a few taps.

How to Stop Siri From Announcing Notifications

Your iPhone has a feature called Announce Notifications. This feature makes Siri read your notifications out loud whenever you’re using AirPods or Beats headphones, or when you’re in your car. But if you dislike the sound of Siri every time you get a notification, there are a couple of ways to disable it.

Just follow these steps:

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Scroll down and select Notifications.
  3. Under the Siri section, tap Announce Notifications.
  4. Toggle Headphones off.

You can also disable Announce Notifications completely if you want to stop Siri reading your notifications for good. Or you could choose which apps can use announce notifications by tapping on each app and toggling Announce Notifications on.

It’s worth noting that there are actually two different ways to disable this feature on your iPhone or iPad. Instead of going to your notifications settings, you can also select Siri & Search and select Announce Notifications. It doesn’t matter which one you use; it’ll work the same way.

Don’t forget that there’s much more your AirPods can do than this, since they’re packed with a lot of features you might have missed.
