‘The First Lady’ trailer sees Viola Davis absolutely embody Michelle Obama
The juicy trailer for The First Lady offers a peek at the first Black First Lady as portrayed by Viola Davis, and it looks just as good as you’d expect.
Michelle Obama won’t be the only White House spouse the anthology series will examine either, with Michelle Pfeiffer portraying Betty Ford, and Gillian Anderson as Eleanor Roosevelt. It’s a whole squad of strong women combined with other strong women, like a strong woman Megazord.
The First Lady will follow several U.S. presidents’ partners from before their husbands took office, and examine each administration through the First Ladies’ eyes — as well as their own impact and personal lives. The drama will also feature O-T Fagbenle as Barack Obama, Aaron Eckhart as Gerald Ford, and Kiefer Sutherland as Franklin D. Roosevelt.
The First Lady premieres Apr. 17 on Showtime.
