What Is the Tesla Semi and When Is It Launching?
Tesla is the ultimate hype machine. The only other company that comes close to generating the amount of anticipation that Tesla can create for a product is Apple. Although, Tesla has surpassed Apple as the company with the most die-hard fans. The Tesla Semi has been teased for quite a while, but if you’re wondering when the Tesla Semi will finally hit the market and what all the fuss is about, read on to find out more about this amazing product.
What Is the Tesla Semi?
The Semi is a legendary Tesla product, in much the same vein as the Tesla Cybertruck. What do both of these products have in common? Apart from the fact that they both feature ridiculous Tesla performance figures, they’re also not for sale at the moment.
This could potentially change by 2023 for the Cybertruck, but don’t count on it until it happens. In the case of the Semi, the release might be closer than any of us had imagined. The Semi features numbers so legendary only Elon Musk could have envisioned them. The stats are almost as crazy as the Model S Plaid‘s numbers.
First, the Tesla Semi is a full-on semi that doesn’t have a million gears—it only features one gear. This is great because truck drivers don’t have to fish for gears while going up hills and getting up to speed from a stop.
The Semi also features an extremely brisk acceleration from 0-60 mph in 20 seconds. The electric truck can also climb steep hills at a faster rate than your typical diesel truck, which is super important to maximize the number of deliveries you can carry out. Not only this, but Tesla’s Semi site states that their truck will be way cheaper to run over the long run because of fuel savings.
Charging with electricity is approximately 2.5 times cheaper per mile than refueling with diesel.* Operators can see estimated fuel savings of up to $200,000 within their first three years of ownership. With remote diagnostics, over-the-air software updates and fewer moving parts to maintain, operators will spend less time at service centers and more time on the road.
The Semi truck will also include many of Tesla’s awesome safety features, like automatic emergency braking and lane-keeping assist systems. This will guarantee that driving the Semi will also be a very safe experience for the driver, as well as those sharing the road with the truck. The Semi also has an impressive range, with Tesla estimating around 500 miles of range (though it’s important to note that this figure is around a quarter of a regular semi!).
When Is the Tesla Semi Launching?
Ok, so two awesome bits of Tesla news rolled into one awesome Elon Musk tweet. Apparently, the Semi will begin deliveries THIS year—2022. The other good news in the tweet is a confirmation of the Cybertruck launching in 2023. Both of these things are awesome news.
It’s also fantastic that they’re launching the 500-mile range Semi, which is probably the model that everyone is going to go for anyway. It’s honestly awesome to see Tesla delivering a bunch of products people thought were dead in the water. If you’ve been waiting for news of the Semi, this update should make you very happy.
The Tesla Semi Will Probably Revolutionize the Trucking Industry
Trucking will likely be revolutionized by Tesla in much the same way they jolted the electric vehicle into major relevance. Say what you want about Tesla and its lineup, but they know how to make products that break the mold that boring companies are afraid to depart.
